Carpentras

Camaiore and Carpentras, signed on Saturday, May the 23rd 2009, the twinning pact at Villa Le Pianore.
Camaiore has undertaken a new path towards Europe, when on Saturday, May the 23rd, 2009, the Mayor of Camaiore Giampaolo Bertola signed the twinning agreement together with the Mayor of the City of Carpentras located in Provence, France.
The ceremony toke place during the event Demetra in Villa Le Pianore.
Relationships with the French town have started since 2006, when Nicolas Roseline, who teaches Italian in the middle school and high school in Carpentras, asked to start school twinning, and also proposed meetings between representatives of the two cities, in looking forward for a future city-twinning.
Both mayors have concretely evaluated the opportunities that will arise from the twinning, considering different topics: educational, cultural, economic industrial and artisanal.
The French delegation, on the day of the agreement, has made arrangements with the President of the Association Bocchette in order to have as guest some French companies to the next expo; plus the delegation got in touch with the Italian companies exhibiting at Demetra for their participation in their Fair Saint Siffrein.
This twinning is very welcome. French representatives are very interested in our territory and our business; with the collaboration of all categories, we hope that to see good results coming from the twinning: facilitated direct contact with someone who, like Italy, is part of Europe; more opportunities for young people to know a new language and other habits; growth of tourism.

This pact represents the realization of a reciprocal exchange which has begun since 2001, when a group of relay runners and cyclists traveled the road from Castel di Casio to Camaiore.
The idea was born when a citizen of Camaiore passionate for local history, Luca Santini, found, in the historical archives of the City, a document stating that in 1477 the Captain Frediano Casio from Bologna saved the castle of Camaiore from a siege by the militias of Pietrasanta and to demonstrate him gratitude, the town council of Camaiore decided to grant him an annual donation of 27 pounds of oil. The episode has happened many centuries ago, but it was enough to give birth to the desire to revitalize spontaneously some contacts with the inhabitants of Castel di Casio.
The community of Castel di Casio reacted enthusiastically to this purpose; therefore both governments got interested in deepen the contacts, to enrich the cultural aspects, the artistic features, sport events and social life.
